CAGR calculator

Paste a starting value, an ending value and a number of periods — or a list of one value per period — and this calculator works out the compound annual growth rate (CAGR), the total growth over the whole span, and how long it takes the value to double at that pace. It suits investors sizing up a fund's multi-year return, founders tracking revenue or user counts across quarters, and anyone comparing two growth stories that ran for different lengths of time.

Set the period length to year, quarter or month and the CAGR is annualized correctly either way, so four quarterly figures produce the same rate as one yearly figure covering the same span. Turning on inflation adjustment adds a real, inflation-adjusted CAGR next to the nominal one. Set a number of periods to project and the tool extends the series forward at the same compound rate; or turn on "solve final value from target CAGR" to run it the other way — give it a starting value, a period count and a target rate, and it computes the final value that rate would produce instead. Decimal places and a choice of plain-text or tab-separated table output round out the options.

Paste two or more values, one per line, to also see the growth between each pair of adjacent periods and the average period-over-period rate — useful when a smooth CAGR hides a bumpy path underneath. Values must stay positive, since compound growth from a zero or negative base isn't mathematically defined; the calculator flags the exact line if one slips through, and Windows and Unix line endings are handled the same way.

Everything runs on your own device. No figures are sent anywhere, so private financial data stays private. Copy the result, download it as a .txt file, or send it straight back into the input to test another scenario.

FAQ

What's the difference between CAGR and total growth?
Total growth is the overall percentage change from start to end. CAGR spreads that same change evenly across every period, so you can compare a 3-year investment with a 7-year one on equal footing.
How does the period length option work?
Set it to match your data — year, quarter or month — and the calculator annualizes the rate automatically, so four quarterly figures produce the same CAGR as one yearly figure covering the same span.
What does 'Solve final value from target CAGR' do?
Enter a starting value and a number of periods with no ending value, turn the option on, and set a target CAGR — the calculator works out the final value that growth rate would produce, instead of computing the rate from a known end point.
Why is there no doubling time for some results?
Doubling time only applies to positive growth. If the value is flat or declining, it never doubles, so the calculator says so instead of showing a number.
Is my financial data uploaded anywhere?
No. Every calculation happens in your browser — the numbers you enter never leave your device.
