Carbon footprint calculator
Estimate the CO2 equivalent emissions of your household activities from a simple list.
Carbon footprint calculator
Paste your household's energy and travel use, one activity per line in the format activity;amount;unit — for example car petrol;1200;km or electricity;350;kWh — and this calculator estimates the CO2 equivalent emissions for each entry, shows what share of your total footprint each one accounts for, and adds up your annual carbon footprint. It recognizes common categories such as car petrol or diesel, motorcycle, flights, buses, trains, electricity, natural gas, heating oil, LPG, water, waste and meat, matched from words in the activity name you type.
Set the period your figures cover — day, month or year — and the tool annualizes everything to a consistent yearly total. Enter the number of people in your household to see the footprint per person, and adjust the built-in emission factors up or down with a single percentage option when your local grid mix or fuel efficiency differs from the defaults. Choose kilograms or tonnes of CO2e for the output, switch between a plain-text summary and an aligned table, and toggle a rough estimate of how many trees would be needed to offset the total.
Lines that don't match the activity;amount;unit format, or carry an amount the tool can't parse, are skipped and counted rather than stopping the whole calculation, so one typo doesn't waste the rest of your list. Decimal amounts accept either a dot or a comma, and Windows and Unix line endings are both handled the same way. The result also compares your per-person figure with a commonly cited global average, so you can see roughly how your footprint stacks up.
Everything runs locally in your browser: nothing you type is uploaded, logged or sent anywhere. Copy the result, download it as a .txt file, or send it back into the input to refine your numbers further.
