Cliche detector
Paste an email, blog draft, cover letter or report and this tool flags the clichés, hedge words and weak intensifiers hiding in it. It ships with a built-in English phrase list grouped into three kinds: clichés like "at the end of the day", "think outside the box" and "game changer"; filler and hedge words such as "very", "really", "basically", "actually", "just" and "it should be noted that"; and weak intensifiers like "extremely", "incredibly" and "literally" that inflate a sentence without adding meaning. Toggle any of the three groups on or off, and add your own comma-separated phrases — company buzzwords, phrases your editor keeps flagging — so the scan reflects the words you actually want to catch.
Matching is case-insensitive and whole-phrase, using word boundaries, so "just" is never flagged inside "adjust". Choose the result you want: a report listing every hit with its line number and counts per phrase, an annotated copy with each hit marked in place, or a cleaned version with the flagged words stripped and the spacing tidied up.
Under the output, the tally shows flagged phrases, total words and a padding score — flagged words as a percentage of all words. A low score means tight, direct writing; a high one is a signal to reread those lines and cut what does not earn its place. It is a starting point for editing, not a verdict: some clichés survive a first draft on purpose, and the tool never rewrites your sentences.
Everything runs locally in your browser. The text you paste is never uploaded, so it is safe to check drafts, internal memos or client copy before anyone else sees them.
