CSS text-shadow generator

Build a CSS text-shadow declaration by adjusting offset, blur, color and opacity, and watch the value update as you type. The tool assembles one or more shadow layers in the correct order and comma-separated syntax, so you can copy a working declaration straight into your stylesheet without hand-tuning the numbers.

Pick a preset to jump straight to a common effect: neon glow stacks growing, softly fading blur rings at the glyph itself; embossed adds a light highlight opposite a dark shadow for a stamped, engraved look; 3D layered repeats a solid, unblurred color along the offset for a stacked block-letter effect; and outline fakes a stroke using eight unblurred shadows around the text, since text-shadow has no native stroke property of its own. Switch back to Custom for full manual control over offset X and Y, blur radius, layer count, color and opacity — each layer grows from the base values you set. Choose between px and rem units, and between a plain CSS declaration or a Tailwind arbitrary-value class for projects that don't have a stylesheet to paste into.

The generated value has no meaningful upper size limit for a handful of layers, but the tool still guards against runaway output the way every generator on this site does, so a pathological input can never freeze the tab. Every option recomputes the result live on a short debounce, with the tally underneath reporting the layer count and the exact character length of the declaration.

Everything runs locally in your browser. No color, offset or preset choice is ever sent anywhere — the tool computes the CSS entirely on your device. When you're happy with the result, copy it, download it as a .txt file, or send the output back into the input to keep refining it.

FAQ

How do I get a neon text effect?
Pick the Neon glow preset and set Color to a saturated hue like cyan or magenta. The tool stacks several growing, fading blur layers at the glyph to create the glow.
Why does text-shadow have no spread value like box-shadow?
It doesn't — text-shadow only supports offset X, offset Y, blur and color. The Outline preset works around that by stacking eight unblurred shadows around the letters instead.
What does the Tailwind output format produce?
A single arbitrary-value class, like [text-shadow:2px_2px_4px_rgba(0,0,0,0.5)], with spaces replaced by underscores the way Tailwind's bracket syntax expects.
Can I use more than one shadow layer with a custom preset?
Yes. Increase Layers up to 6; each extra layer scales the offset and blur further out and fades its opacity, building up depth automatically.
Is my color or CSS uploaded anywhere?
No. The generator runs entirely in your browser — nothing you enter here is sent to a server.
