Emergency fund calculator
Paste your monthly expenses as one line per item in the format "item;amount" — for example "Rent;900" — and this tool adds up what you spend on necessities each month, sizes the emergency fund you need for a chosen number of months of coverage, and compares that target to what you already have saved.
Mark a line optional by adding an asterisk after the item name, like "Streaming subscriptions*;15", then toggle "Include expenses marked optional" to decide whether discretionary spending counts toward the reserve. Set the months of coverage you want (three months is a common minimum, six is a common target), your current savings and monthly contribution, and the tool works out the shortfall and how many months it will take to close it. Add a savings account interest rate and an inflation rate and the projection accounts for both — interest grows your balance, inflation grows the target — so the number stays honest instead of freezing today's expenses in place. Turn on the month-by-month progress table to see the balance build up, and switch between plain text and an aligned table for the summary. Currency symbol and number format (1,234.56 / 1.234,56 / 1 234,56) are both adjustable.
Lines that do not match the "item;amount" format are skipped, and Windows and Unix line endings are handled the same way. If your monthly contribution and interest can never close the gap, the tool says so plainly rather than showing a number that will never arrive — the tally under the output always shows the item count, the shortfall, and the months (or "not reachable") at a glance.
Everything runs in your browser. Your expenses and savings figures are never uploaded anywhere. Copy the result, download it as a .txt file, or send it back to the input to adjust one line and recalculate.
