Heading case consistency checker

Paste a list of headings, section titles or page names and this tool checks every line against the capitalization style you pick, then shows exactly what's wrong and how to fix it. Docs, style guides and CMS content tend to drift as different people add headings over time — one contributor writes "Getting Started", the next writes "getting started", and a reader notices the inconsistency even when they can't name it. Running the whole list through one rulebook catches every stray line at once.

Choose sentence case (only the first word capitalized), title case (each major word capitalized), or all-lowercase, and pick a title-case rulebook: Chicago style keeps every preposition lowercase regardless of length, AP style only lowercases short ones, and Simple sticks to the handful of articles and conjunctions most people expect. Add your own always-lowercase words for house style ("versus", "feat."), and list brand names or abbreviations — iPhone, NASA, McDonald's — that should never be reflowed into the checker's casing rules. Two more checks are optional: flagging a heading that ends with a period, and flagging one that runs past a length you set, which doubles as a quick check against a CMS or SEO title limit.

Switch the output between a list of findings, each with the line number, what's wrong and a suggested rewrite, or the fully corrected text ready to paste back over the original. The tool treats every non-blank line as its own heading, so blank lines are skipped and left untouched. It handles Windows and Unix line endings the same way, and the tally under the output reports how many headings were checked and how many were flagged.

Everything runs in your browser. Your headings are never uploaded, so it's safe to run a private outline, an internal wiki or an unpublished article through it. Copy the result, download it as a .txt file, or send the output straight back into the input to adjust the options and check it again.

FAQ

What counts as "a heading" here?
Every non-blank line of the input is checked on its own, so paste one heading per line — a list of page titles, section headings or a document outline.
What's the difference between the Chicago and AP rulebooks?
Both keep articles and coordinating conjunctions lowercase in title case. Chicago style also lowercases every preposition, however long ("without", "between"); AP style only lowercases short ones (three letters or fewer) and capitalizes longer prepositions.
Will it mangle brand names like "iPhone" or acronyms like "NASA"?
Only if you don’t list them. Add them to the exceptions field and the checker leaves their casing exactly as you typed it, in every style.
Can it fix the headings for me instead of just listing problems?
Yes — switch the output option to "Corrected text" and the tool returns the fully re-cased list, ready to paste back over the original.
Is my text uploaded anywhere?
No. The checker runs entirely in your browser — your headings never leave your device.
