Height percentile calculator

Paste a height, age and sex and this tool estimates roughly where that height falls in the population — as a percentile, and as "taller than X of 100 people, shorter than Y of 100". It uses built-in average-height and standard-deviation tables loosely modeled on WHO and CDC growth data, assuming a normal distribution, so the result is an approximation rather than a clinical growth assessment.

Each line follows the format height;age;sex, for example 175;30;m or 5'9;8;f, so you can check one person or paste a whole list and get a percentile for every row. The units option switches height entry between centimeters and feet-and-inches. Age decides which reference chart is used automatically: under 20 pulls from an interpolated child and teen growth curve, and 20 and over uses a fixed adult average — there is no separate toggle to set. The reference population option chooses between a world average and a taller European average, which shifts both figures noticeably, especially for adults.

Very short, very tall, or clearly invalid entries (a missing field, an age outside 0–120, a sex other than m/f) return a calm error naming the exact line and expecting a corrected height;age;sex triplet. Windows and Unix line endings are handled the same way, and pasting hundreds of rows at once works exactly like pasting one.

Everything runs locally in your browser: heights, ages and any other detail you paste are never uploaded anywhere. Copy the result, download it as a .txt file, or send it to another tool's input to keep working with the numbers.

FAQ

How accurate is the percentile?
It is an estimate, not a clinical measurement. The tool assumes a normal distribution around built-in average-height figures loosely based on WHO and CDC growth data, which is a reasonable approximation but not a substitute for a doctor or growth chart specific to your child.
How is child vs. adult decided?
By age alone: under 20 uses an interpolated child and teen growth curve, and 20 or older uses a fixed adult average for the chosen sex and reference population. There is no separate switch for this.
What does 'reference population' change?
World average uses a global average height table; Europe average uses a taller European one. The same height can land in a noticeably different percentile depending on which one you pick, especially for adults.
Can I check several people at once?
Yes. Put one height;age;sex entry per line and the output lists a percentile for each row, plus a combined average percentile in the tool's live tally.
Is my data uploaded anywhere?
No. Every calculation runs locally in your browser using built-in tables — nothing you type is sent to a server.
