Numbered list

A numbered list tool instantly prefixes each line with an incrementing number. Paste any text—a todo list, instructions, verses, or raw data—and watch every non-empty line become "1. first", "2. second", "3. third" and so on. Blank lines pass through unchanged and do not consume a number, so your document structure stays completely intact. This is one of the simplest yet most useful text tools available.

You have complete control over the starting number and the separator format. Start from 1, 0, 100, or any other number you need (even negative numbers for countdown lists). Choose from classic period-separated format "1. " for formal documents, parentheses "1) " for a more casual appearance, or minimalist hyphens "1- " for clean aesthetic presentations. The separator option lets you customize the output to match any style guide or formatting requirement.

Everything runs locally in your browser without any server processing. Your text is never uploaded, analyzed, or stored anywhere, making it completely safe for private notes, passwords, sensitive information, or confidential content. The live counter below the output displays exactly how many items were numbered and the total character count in real time.

Copy the numbered result to your clipboard with one click, download it as a text file for sharing, or send it directly to another tool for additional processing or formatting. This versatile tool is perfect for organizing unstructured lists, creating numbered instructions, preparing inventory lists, formatting agendas, or preparing any sequential content for publication or sharing.

FAQ

Do blank lines consume a number?
No. Empty lines are preserved as they are and do not increment the counter, so your document structure stays exactly as it was.
Can I start numbering from a number other than 1?
Yes. The start number option lets you begin at any integer, positive, negative, or zero.
What separators are available?
The default is a period and space ("1. "), but you can also choose parentheses ("1) ") or hyphens ("1- "). All three are common in formatted lists.
Is my text uploaded anywhere?
No. The numbering runs entirely in your browser and your text never leaves your device.
