Seating chart generator

Paste a guest list, one name per line, and this tool arranges everyone across a set number of tables or rows. It is built for weddings, classroom seating, conference dinners, or any event where you need a fair, quick seating plan instead of dragging names around a spreadsheet by hand.

Set the number of tables or rows and how many seats each one holds, then choose round tables or straight rows for the arrangement shape. Guests are shuffled into place by default — turn that off to fill seats in the order you typed them instead. The optional seating rules panel takes one pair per line: write "Alice + Bob" to keep two people at the same table, or "Carol - Dave" to keep them apart, and the tool checks every rule while it seats people, not just the ones it gets to first. A random seed makes a shuffled result reproducible, so you can regenerate the exact same chart later, and the rounds option produces several independent arrangements in one go — useful for a multi-course dinner where guests move between courses.

Choose between two output styles: a plain list of who sits where, or a text room map that draws each table as a small box so you can see the whole layout at a glance. If a request can't be satisfied — more guests than seats, a group asked to sit together that won't fit at one table, or seating rules that contradict each other — the tool tells you exactly what to fix instead of guessing.

Everything runs locally in your browser. Your guest list is never uploaded anywhere, which matters when it is a wedding invite list or an internal attendee roster. Copy the finished chart, download it as a .txt file, or send it back into the input to adjust the guest list and regenerate.

FAQ

How do I keep two people at the same table?
In the seating rules panel, write the two names separated by " + ", one pair per line, for example "Alice + Bob". Chaining rules like "Bob + Carol" on another line seats all three together.
How do I keep two people apart?
Use " - " instead of " + " in the seating rules panel, for example "Carol - Dave". The tool never seats that pair at the same table.
What happens if the guest list does not fit?
If there are more guests than total seats, or a must-sit-together group is bigger than one table, the tool shows a message explaining the problem instead of producing a broken chart.
What does the random seed do?
Leave it empty for a different shuffle every time. Enter any text or number as a seed to make the shuffle reproducible, so the same guest list and rules always produce the same chart.
Is my guest list uploaded anywhere?
No. The seating chart is generated entirely in your browser—your guest list and seating rules never leave your device.
