Wi-Fi QR code generator

Enter a network name and password and this tool builds the standard WIFI: connection string and renders it as a QR code — the same format printers, routers and guest-network signs use. Point a phone camera at the result and it offers to join the network directly, which saves spelling out a long WPA passphrase to every visitor, houseguest or café customer.

Choose the security type — WPA (also covering WPA2 and WPA3), WEP, or an open network with no password — and mark the network as hidden if it doesn't broadcast its name, which adds the H:true flag a scanner expects. Escaping special characters is on by default: a semicolon, comma, colon, backslash or quote inside the name or password is backslash-escaped so a scanner reads the field boundaries correctly, since those exact characters separate one field from the next. Turn escaping off only when pasting a string that's already escaped.

Error correction, the quiet zone (margin) and the rendered size all affect how reliably a camera locks onto the code — more correction survives a scratched or partly obscured print at the cost of a denser pattern. Pick a foreground and background colour to match a sign or a wallet card; the tool flags colours that are too close in contrast or a light foreground on a dark background, either of which scans unreliably. Switch on "Show the raw WIFI: string" to see exactly what the code encodes before handing it out — and note that the password sits inside it as plain, readable text.

Everything runs locally in your browser: the network name and password are never uploaded anywhere. Copy the connection string, download the code as an SVG or PNG, or print it straight from the page.

FAQ

Which devices can scan this?
Any modern phone camera app recognises a Wi-Fi QR code and offers to join the network — no separate scanner app needed on iOS or recent Android.
What does "Open (no password)" do?
It builds a connection string with no password field at all, for a network that requires no passphrase. Anything typed into the password field is ignored for this option.
Why mark a network as hidden?
A hidden network does not broadcast its name, so a scanning device needs to be told to look for it. This adds an H:true flag to the code; leave it off for a normal, broadcasting network.
Is the password safe inside the QR code?
The password sits in the code as plain, readable text — anyone who scans it can read or reuse it. Treat a printed Wi-Fi QR code the same way you would treat the password itself, and avoid posting it somewhere public and permanent.
Is my network name or password uploaded anywhere?
No. The connection string and the QR code are both built entirely in your browser — nothing you type ever leaves your device.
