Zakat calculator

Paste your assets and debts, one per line as item;amount, and this tool adds up your net zakatable wealth, compares it against the nisab threshold and works out the zakat due at your chosen rate. It also breaks the total down by asset category, so you can see how much of the figure came from cash, gold, business stock or any other group you name.

The rate defaults to 2.5%, the standard figure for cash and tradeable wealth held for a lunar year, but it can be changed for other cases. Nisab can be entered directly as a fixed amount, or derived from the current price of gold or silver per gram using the classical weights of 85 g of gold or 595 g of silver — pick whichever standard you follow. A line counts as a debt either when its amount is negative or when a chosen keyword such as "debt" appears anywhere on the line, whichever suits how you keep your list. Currency symbol and rounding (exact, to the nearest unit, or rounded up) are both configurable, and the result can be shown as plain text or as a lined-up table.

Lines are read as item;amount or item;amount;category, with Windows and Unix line endings treated the same. A line that doesn't parse is flagged with its line number rather than silently ignored, so a stray comma or missing amount is easy to find and fix. This tool gives a general estimate and isn't a religious ruling — for less common cases such as agricultural produce or business inventory, check with a knowledgeable source.

Everything runs locally in your browser. Your financial figures are never uploaded or stored anywhere outside your device. Copy the result, download it as a .txt file, or send it to another tool's input to continue working with it.

FAQ

How is nisab calculated from gold or silver?
The tool multiplies the price per gram you enter by the classical weight for the standard you pick: 85 grams for gold, or 595 grams for silver.
How do I mark a line as a debt?
Choose "Negative amount" and prefix the amount with a minus sign, or choose "Keyword in line" and put a word like "debt" anywhere on the line — either way the line is subtracted from your assets.
What zakat rate should I use?
2.5% is the standard rate for cash, savings and tradeable wealth held for a full lunar year. Other categories, such as agricultural produce, traditionally use a different rate — adjust the field if that applies to you.
Does it round the zakat amount up?
Only if you choose "Round up" in the rounding option. The default shows the exact figure to two decimal places, and "Round to nearest" rounds to the nearest whole currency unit.
Is my financial data uploaded anywhere?
No. The calculation runs entirely in your browser — your assets, debts and totals are never sent to a server.
