Charades word generator

Stuck for what to act out at game night? This generator pulls a word or short phrase from a built-in list of more than 300 charades prompts — movies, animals, professions, activities and everyday things — so you always have something ready to mime.

Pick a category, or leave it on "All categories" to mix everything together. Difficulty works the same way: "Easy" sticks to short, familiar words like Dog or Chair, "Hard" reaches for trickier prompts like The Grand Budapest Hotel or Cartographer, and "Any difficulty" draws from the whole list. Set how many words you want at once — useful for printing a batch of cards before the game starts — and a time limit in seconds, which is shown as a suggested countdown for each round rather than an actual running timer.

Each word is drawn independently, so requesting many words from a narrow category (say, five easy animals) can occasionally repeat one — the tally under the output shows how many of the words generated were actually unique. Press Generate for a fresh batch any time, or let it regenerate automatically when you change an option.

Everything runs locally in your browser: the word list ships with the page and nothing about your game is uploaded anywhere. Copy the list, download it as a .txt file to print, or clear it and start over for the next round.

FAQ

How many words are in the built-in list?
More than 300, spread across five categories (movies, animals, professions, activities, things) and three difficulty levels.
Does the time limit actually count down?
No. It's a suggested number of seconds per round, shown alongside the words — pair it with a phone clock or a separate stopwatch if you want an actual timer.
Can the same word come up twice in one batch?
Yes. Each word is drawn independently from the filtered list, so a small pool — like one category on Hard difficulty — can repeat. The tally shows how many draws were unique.
Is the word list available in languages other than English?
Not yet. The built-in list is English only, so the generated words and phrases stay in English even when the rest of the page is shown in another language.
Is anything about my game sent to a server?
No. Words are chosen entirely in your browser from a built-in list; nothing is uploaded or logged anywhere.
