Fuel cost calculator

Work out fuel used and total cost for one trip or a whole list of routes.

Input

Fuel cost calculator

Paste a route — or a whole list of routes, one per line — and this tool works out how much fuel the trip burns and what it costs. Each line can be a plain distance ("42") or a labeled one ("Home to work;42"); every route is priced individually and then totaled, so a week of commutes or a multi-stop road trip comes back as one clear breakdown instead of a spreadsheet.

Set your vehicle's consumption in whichever unit you actually know it in — litres per 100 km, kilometres per litre, or miles per gallon — along with the fuel price and currency. Turn on round trip to double every distance before it's priced, split the total across a number of people, and add a wear-and-tear surcharge or a flat toll/parking fee on top of the fuel cost itself. Compare a second vehicle side by side to see which one is actually cheaper for the same routes, and switch the output between a readable text summary and an aligned table.

Distances that don't parse as a number, and lines that aren't "label;distance" or a bare number, are skipped and counted rather than silently dropped or guessed at — the tally always says how many lines were used. Both comma and dot decimal separators are accepted, and Windows and Unix line endings are handled the same way.

Everything runs locally in your browser: no route, price or vehicle detail is ever uploaded. Copy the result, download it as a .txt file, or send it straight into another tool like the bill splitter or the currency converter.

FAQ

What format should each line be in?
Either "label;distance" (for example "Home to work;42") or just a distance number on its own. Distances are read as kilometres.
Does round trip affect every route the same way?
Yes. When it is on, every parsed distance is doubled before fuel and cost are calculated, so a one-way commute distance still produces the correct daily total.
How does comparing two vehicles work?
Turn on "Compare a second vehicle" and set its consumption and fuel price. Every route — and the total — is priced for both vehicles, and the summary states which one is cheaper and by how much.
What happens to the wear-and-tear surcharge and tolls?
The surcharge is applied as a percentage on top of the fuel cost for each route; the toll or parking fee is a flat amount added once per route, in the currency you chose.
Is my trip data uploaded anywhere?
No. The calculation runs entirely in your browser — your routes, prices and vehicle details never leave your device.
