Metronome tempo calculator

Turn a BPM tempo and time signature into beat length, bar length and song duration.

Input

Metronome tempo calculator

Set a tempo in BPM and a time signature and this tool works out exactly how long one beat and one bar last, in milliseconds, plus how long the piece runs for a given number of bars. It is built for musicians, producers and anyone syncing visuals, lighting or code to a beat, where "120 BPM" on its own does not tell you the one number you actually need: how many milliseconds apart the clicks are.

Choose the time signature (2/4, 3/4, 4/4, 6/8, 5/4 or 7/8) and which note value receives the beat — quarter, half, eighth or sixteenth — and the beat map shows every pulse in the bar with the accented first beat marked. Turn on the delay/reverb option to get a full table of straight, dotted and triplet millisecond values for whole, half, quarter, eighth and sixteenth notes, the numbers a delay pedal or plugin actually asks for. Switch the output between a plain-text report and an aligned table, and the tool also reads off a classic tempo marking — Largo, Andante, Allegro or Presto — for the BPM you entered.

Paste a list of song sections instead of leaving the input empty, one per line as name;BPM;bars — for example Intro;100;4 followed by Verse;120;16 — and the tool switches to reporting each section's duration alongside the total length of the song, which is exactly the arithmetic a set list or a click track needs and nobody wants to do by hand.

Every calculation runs locally in your browser the moment you change a value; nothing you type is uploaded anywhere. Copy the result, download it as a .txt file, or send it straight into another tool's input to keep working.

FAQ

How is the length of one beat calculated?
A beat lasts 60,000 ÷ BPM milliseconds — that is what beats per minute means by definition, independent of which note value you assign to the beat.
What does the note that "gets the beat" change?
It rescales the delay/reverb table and the note-duration figures. The click itself always stays 60,000 ÷ BPM ms; choosing eighth instead of quarter halves what a quarter note is worth in milliseconds.
How do I get the total length of a song?
Paste one section per line as name;BPM;bars — for example Bridge;95;12 — and the output lists each section's duration plus the song total, all under the time signature you selected.
What are the dotted and triplet values for?
They are the millisecond settings for delay and reverb plugins or pedals, shown as 1/4, 1/4. (dotted) and 1/4T (triplet) alongside the other common note values.
Is my tempo or song data uploaded anywhere?
No. Every calculation runs entirely in your browser — nothing you enter here is sent to a server.
