Playback speed time calculator

Paste the length of a recording — or a whole list of podcast episodes and audiobook chapters, one per line — and this calculator works out how long you will actually spend listening at a faster playback speed, how much time that saves, and the date you will finish at a daily listening budget you set.

Enter each length as H:MM:SS (45:00 for forty-five minutes, 1:15:00 for an hour and a quarter) or switch the time format to plain minutes. Label a line with "Episode 3 - 45:00" or a tab before the duration and the label carries into the result table; a bare duration is fine too. The speed slider covers 0.5x to 3x, and skip intros/ads per item shaves a fixed number of seconds off each entry — at the recording's own pace — before the speed is applied, matching a podcast app's skip button. Compare multiple speeds swaps the single-speed table for real listening time, time saved and finish date at 1x, 1.25x, 1.5x, 1.75x, 2x, 2.5x and 3x side by side.

The result is a plain-text table: one row per item with its original length, real listening time and time saved, a totals row, and — for a single speed — the daily budget and the date the list finishes, counting today as day one. Windows and Unix line endings both work, and a line that does not match the selected time format is reported by its number rather than silently dropped.

Everything runs in your browser as you type or change an option — no recording lengths or listening habits are ever sent anywhere. Copy the table, download it as a .txt file, or send it back into the input to try another speed.

FAQ

How is time saved calculated?
It is the original length minus the actual time you spend listening at the chosen speed (after any skipped seconds), summed across every item. At a speed below 1x it turns negative, showing how much extra time that pace costs instead.
What does skip intros/ads do?
It subtracts a fixed number of seconds from each item's length, at the recording's own pace, before the playback speed is applied — the same effect as tapping a skip button at the start of every episode.
How is the finish date worked out?
The total listening time is divided by your daily listening budget and rounded up to a whole number of days, counting the day you run the calculator as day one.
Can I list several episodes at once?
Yes. Put one length per line, optionally with a label before it (like "Episode 3 - 45:00" or a tab-separated label), and the table adds a totals row for the whole list.
Is my listening data uploaded anywhere?
No. Every calculation runs locally in your browser — the episode lengths and options you enter never leave your device.
