RPG name generator

Roll up a batch of fantasy names in one click. Pick a race — human, elf, dwarf, orc or halfling — set a gender and a count, and get a list of pronounceable character names built from curated syllable parts. Need a location instead of a person? Switch the race to Place and the generator assembles compound town and realm names like Ravenhold, Silvermere and Frostgard.

Every race has its own sound. Elves come out flowing and vowel-rich (Aelar, Sylwen), dwarves are hard and stony (Thordin, Brunhild), orcs are guttural (Grushnak, Morgash), humans stay grounded and Anglo (Aldric, Rowena), and halflings feel homely (Bilbo, Meriadoc). The gender setting shapes the endings for humans and elves; dwarves, orcs, halflings and places ignore it, because their name pools already read the way you want.

This is built for tabletop and video-game masters who need NPCs on the fly: name a tavern keeper mid-session, fill a D&D or Pathfinder roster, seed a novel's cast, or populate a village without breaking the flow of play. Generate eight at a time, skim for the one that fits, and regenerate as often as you like — there is no repetition penalty and no sign-up.

Names are assembled in your browser using cryptographically secure randomness. Nothing is sent to a server, nothing is logged, and no one else sees the names you roll. Copy the list, download it as a text file, or send it straight to another TextArray tool.

FAQ

Which races and name types can it generate?
Five character races — human, elf, dwarf, orc and halfling — plus a Place mode for towns, cities and realms. Each has its own syllable set, so an elf name never sounds like an orc name.
How does the gender option work?
It changes the name endings for humans and elves, which have distinct masculine and feminine forms. Choose Any to draw from both. Dwarves, orcs, halflings and places ignore gender and always use their full pool.
Can I use these names in a published game, novel or app?
Yes. The names are procedurally assembled from generic fantasy syllables, not copied from any book or franchise, so they are free to use in your campaigns, stories, games and prototypes.
Are the names random every time?
Yes. Each name is built from a fresh draw using the browser’s cryptographically secure random generator, so two clicks give two different lists. Regenerate as many times as you need.
Is anything sent to a server?
No. Names are generated entirely in your browser and never leave your device — no server, no logs, no account, no tracking of what you generate.
