Typing speed scorer

Paste what you actually typed into the main box and the original passage into the second panel, and this tool scores the attempt: words per minute, characters per minute, accuracy as a percentage, and a line-by-line list of every typo with the word you were meant to type next to the one you actually typed. It is built for typing tutors, hiring screens, keyboarding practice and anyone curious how fast — and how clean — their typing really is.

Set the elapsed time in seconds to match how long the attempt took; every rate figure is derived from it. Word definition switches between the industry-standard five characters per word and counting real, whitespace-separated words, and gross vs. net WPM decides whether the error count gets subtracted from the raw speed before it is reported. Case-sensitive, ignore-punctuation and ignore-diacritics toggles control how strictly a retyped word has to match the original before it counts as correct — useful when the practice text uses accented letters, or when you only care about the words themselves and not the shift key.

Leave the second panel empty and the tool falls back to a short built-in sample passage in the page's own language, so there is always something to type. Choose text or table output for the report, and Windows and Unix line endings are treated the same way throughout, so it does not matter which platform the passage was written on.

Everything runs in your browser: the passage you paste and the text you type are never uploaded anywhere. Copy the report, download it as a .txt file, or send it straight to the input of another tool to keep working.

FAQ

How is WPM calculated?
By default, every five typed characters count as one word, divided by the elapsed time in minutes — the standard typing-test formula. Switch "Word definition" to "Actual words" to count real, space-separated words instead.
What happens if I leave the sample text panel empty?
The tool falls back to a short built-in sample passage in the page’s own language, so there is always something to compare against.
What is the difference between gross and net WPM?
Gross WPM counts everything you typed, errors included. Net WPM subtracts the error count first, so it reflects how fast you typed correctly.
Does the typo list show what I typed or what I should have typed?
Both. Each entry shows the expected word from the sample text next to the word you actually typed in its place.
Is my typed text uploaded anywhere?
No. Scoring runs entirely in your browser — the sample text and what you type never leave your device.
