Reorder point and safety stock calculator

Find when to reorder stock, how much safety stock to hold, and how many days of inventory remain.

Input

Reorder point and safety stock calculator

Paste one line per product in the format "product;stock on hand;daily sales;lead time in days" and this tool works out, for every line, the reorder point — the stock level at which a new purchase order should go out — plus the safety stock backing it, how many days of inventory remain at the current sales rate, the date stock is projected to run out, and a recommended order quantity. Rows already at or below their reorder point are flagged so the most urgent SKUs stand out.

The service level option sets how much protection the safety stock buffer gives against running out during the lead time, from a loose 90% up to a strict 99.9%; a higher figure holds more stock in reserve. Demand variability (a percentage) and the seasonal factor (a multiplier on daily sales) let you model a product that sells unevenly or is heading into a peak period, and both feed directly into the safety stock and reorder point maths. Minimum order quantity and the pack or case multiple round the recommended order up to what a supplier will actually accept, and setting an annual holding cost and a cost per order switches the recommendation to the economic order quantity (EOQ) — the batch size that minimises total ordering and carrying cost.

Lines are processed independently, so a spreadsheet export with dozens of SKUs works in one paste; a malformed line is skipped and counted rather than breaking the batch, and Windows and Unix line endings are handled alike. Turn on "sort by urgency" to put the products with the fewest days of stock left — the ones that need attention first — at the top, and switch between a compact table and a plain-text report depending on where the output is headed next.

Everything runs locally in your browser: inventory levels, sales rates and supplier costs are never uploaded anywhere. Copy the result, download it as a .txt file, or send it straight to another tool's input to keep working on it.

FAQ

What is the reorder point, exactly?
It is the stock level that should trigger a new purchase order: the demand expected during the supplier lead time, plus a safety stock buffer for the service level, variability and seasonal factor you set.
How is safety stock calculated?
Safety stock = z-score(service level) × (daily sales × demand variability%) × √(lead time in days). A higher service level or more variable demand both increase the buffer.
What happens if I leave holding cost and ordering cost at 0?
The recommended order quantity is simply the shortfall needed to bring stock back up to the reorder point. Set both costs above 0 to switch to the economic order quantity (EOQ) instead.
What format does the input need to be in?
One product per line: product name, stock on hand, average daily sales, and supplier lead time in days, separated by semicolons — for example "Widget A;50;10;7".
Is my inventory data uploaded anywhere?
No. The calculation runs entirely in your browser — your stock levels, sales figures and supplier costs stay on your device.
