EV charging cost calculator
Work out what a full charge, and every trip, actually costs an electric car.
EV charging cost calculator
Paste a list of trips and this tool prices each one on electricity, using your car's real consumption and charging losses — then shows the total cost of a charging session and, if you want it, what the same trips would have cost in a petrol or diesel car.
Set the battery capacity in kWh and consumption in kWh per 100 km from your car's spec sheet, and a charging efficiency around 90% to account for the energy lost as heat between the wall socket and the battery — a real number, not the battery's nameplate capacity, is what actually gets paid for. Choose the electricity price for home or public-station charging, and the charge range you plan to use, such as the common 20% to 80% that keeps most batteries in their healthiest zone. To compare against a combustion car, turn on the petrol or diesel comparison and enter its consumption in litres per 100 km and the local fuel price; the tool then shows the saving, or the extra cost, trip by trip and in total.
Trips go one per line, either "label;distance" — for example "Commute;40" — or a bare distance in kilometres when a label isn't needed. Lines that don't parse are skipped and counted rather than silently dropped, so a stray note in the list never breaks the calculation. The live tally under the output tracks the number of trips, the total cost and the cost per 100 km as you type.
Everything runs on your device: your trips, prices and battery details are never uploaded anywhere. Copy the breakdown, download it as a .txt file, or send it straight into another tool to keep working with the numbers.
