Plak een bericht vol internetafkortingen en SMS-afkortingen in, en dit hulpmiddel schrijft elke herkende afkorting uit naar de volledige betekenis – "brb" wordt "be right back", "tbh" wordt "to be honest" enzovoort uit een ingebouwd woordenboek met meer dan 250 veel voorkomende termen. Het is ontworpen voor iedereen die oud-school chat-slang in duidelijk Engels moet lezen: een ouder die tekstberichten van een tiener decodeert, een moderator die forumberichten beoordeelt, of een schrijver die controleert wat een afkorting in een concept eigenlijk betekent.
De optie "Richting" keert de bewerking om: schakel over naar "Verkorten tot afkortingen" en het hulpmiddel zoekt naar zinnen die het kent – "for your information", "laughing out loud", "talk to you later" – en vervangt ze in plaats daarvan door de overeenkomende afkorting, wat handig is bij het opstellen van berichten of bijschriften die in een strak karakterlimiet moeten passen. Schakel "Gevonden afkortingen met betekenissen weergeven" in om onder het resultaat een glossarium in duidelijk Nederlands te verkrijgen, met alle gevonden termen en hun betekenissen.
Overeenkomsten zijn alleen voor hele woorden, dus "lolcat" wordt intact gelaten hoewel het "lol" bevat, en elke overeenkomst behoudt de omringende interpunctie en kapitalisatie: "LOL" wordt uitgeschreven als "LAUGHING OUT LOUD", "Btw" wordt "By the way", en eventuele leestekens direct na een afkorting blijven exact waar ze waren. Alles wat het woordenboek niet herkent – normale woorden, namen, emoji's, tekst in andere talen – blijft volledig onveranderd. Het volledige woordenboek wordt ook als referentietabel onder het hulpmiddel afgedrukt, zodat u een term op kunt zoeken zonder een conversie uit te voeren.
Alles draait lokaal in uw browser; geen tekst wordt ooit geüpload. Wanneer u tevreden bent met het resultaat, kopieert u het, downloadt u het als .txt-bestand of stuurt u het rechtstreeks naar de invoer van een ander hulpmiddel om verder aan te werken.
