Cooking measurement converter

Paste a recipe and this tool converts every ingredient line to the unit you bake or cook with. Each line follows a simple pattern, ingredient;amount;unit — for example flour;200;g or sugar;1;cup — and the whole list converts at once, so you don't have to look up each ingredient separately.

Choose a target unit under Convert to: grams, milliliters, cups, tablespoons, teaspoons, ounces or pounds. Converting between two volume units or two mass units is exact math. Converting across the two — cups of flour to grams, or grams of butter to tablespoons — uses a built-in density table for common baking ingredients like flour, sugar, butter, rice, water, honey, milk, salt, cocoa and oats, so the result reflects how that ingredient measures out, not water's density. Cup size follows the US (236.6 ml) or metric (250 ml) convention, whichever the Cup size option is set to. Round to kitchen fractions turns cup, tablespoon and teaspoon amounts into 1/4, 1/3, 1/2 and similar fractions instead of decimals, and a line giving an oven temperature in °C, °F or gas mark converts separately, to the scale chosen under Oven temperature scale.

An ingredient the density table doesn't recognize is left unconverted rather than guessed at, and the live tally reports how many lines converted and how many were skipped. Lines outside the ingredient;amount;unit format — notes, blank lines, a title — pass through untouched, so a full recipe pastes in without editing first. Table under Output format lines everything up in aligned columns instead.

Everything runs locally in your browser: your recipe is never uploaded or stored anywhere. Copy the result, download it as a .txt file, or send it back into the input to convert again with different options.

FAQ

What format does the input need to be in?
One ingredient per line, as ingredient;amount;unit — for example butter;100;g or sugar;1/2;cup. Lines in any other format are left unchanged.
How does converting cups to grams work if a cup is a volume?
The tool looks up that ingredient's density in a built-in table (flour, sugar, butter, rice, water, honey, milk, salt, cocoa, oats and a few more) and uses it to convert between volume and weight. An ingredient it doesn't recognize is left unconverted so the result is never a guess.
What is the difference between the US and metric cup?
A US cup is 236.6 ml; a metric cup, used in Australia, the UK and much of Europe, is 250 ml. Pick the one your recipe was written for under Cup size — the difference is small per cup but adds up across a recipe.
How does oven temperature conversion work?
A line ending in C, F or a gas mark number (like oven;180;C) is converted to whichever scale you choose under Oven temperature scale, using the standard gas mark reference table alongside the Celsius/Fahrenheit formula.
Is my recipe uploaded anywhere?
No. Conversion runs entirely in your browser — your recipe never leaves your device.
