Pirate speak translator

Paste a sentence, a paragraph or a whole story and this tool swaps everyday words for stereotypical pirate speech — "my" becomes "me", "you" becomes "ye", "hello" becomes "ahoy", and so on through a small dictionary of pirate favourites. Use it for party invitations, "talk like a pirate day" posts, game dialogue or a laugh in a group chat.

Every language gets its own dictionary rather than a translation of the English one, because pirate speech is a local register, not a vocabulary list: Slovak turns "peniaze" into "dublóny", and the exclamations are the ones that language actually uses — "Mille sabords !" in French, "Тысяча чертей!" in Russian. The tool follows the language of the page, so switching languages switches dictionaries.

The translation works word by word on whole-word boundaries, so it only replaces "you" as a standalone word, never a fragment hiding inside another word. Capitalisation carries over: "You" becomes "Ye", "YOU" becomes "YE". Switch the direction to translate a pirate sentence back into plain-ish everyday wording, handy for reading pirate-themed text without decoding it first.

Two extra options shape the flavour. "Exclamations" sprinkles a random interjection from that language onto the end of some sentences — rare for a light touch, often to go all in; each run picks differently, so the result never reads quite the same way twice. "Keep punctuation" controls whether commas, periods and question marks survive. Numbers, emoji and any word outside the dictionary pass through unchanged, and line breaks stay where you typed them.

Everything runs locally in your browser: nothing you paste in is ever uploaded or logged, so a private in-joke is as safe as a public post. Copy the result, download it as a .txt file, or flip the direction and paste it back in to see the round trip.

FAQ

How does the tool decide what to replace?
It matches whole words against the pirate dictionary for the language you are using — in English, words like "my", "you", "hello" and "money" — and swaps them for their pirate equivalent, keeping the original capitalisation.
Can it translate pirate speech back into normal wording?
Yes. Switch "Direction" to "From pirate" and it reads words like "ye", "ahoy" and "grub" back as "you", "hello" and "food".
Will it change words it does not recognise?
No. Anything outside the pirate dictionary — names, numbers, emoji, accented words — is left exactly as you typed it.
Which languages does it work in?
All eighteen the site is available in. Each has its own hand-written dictionary and its own exclamations, so the tool follows the language you are reading it in rather than only handling English.
Is my text uploaded anywhere?
No. The translation runs entirely in your browser, and your text never leaves your device.
