RPG encounter generator

Stuck for what happens next at the table? This generator builds a random encounter for your tabletop RPG session in one click: who the party runs into, how many there are, what they are doing right now, and what is nearby. Use it for a wandering-monster check, to stock a hex-crawl, or to improvise when the party goes somewhere you did not prep.

Pick an environment — forest, dungeon, city, sea or desert — and each draws from its own pool of creatures, NPCs, activities and scenery, so a desert ambush reads nothing like a dungeon one. Difficulty and party level scale how many creatures show up, from a lone scout at easy to a small warband at deadly. The combat-versus-social slider sets how often an encounter is a fight rather than a chance meeting, and the encounter count generates several at once for stocking a whole session. Turn on "include why they are here" and "include a reward or find" to add a motive and a loot line. Paste your own list into the custom foes field — comma, semicolon or newline separated — and combat encounters draw from it instead of the built-in tables.

Choose bullet or paragraph output depending on whether you want something to scan mid-session or read aloud. The tally tracks how many encounters were generated and the combat-to-social split, and it re-rolls instantly whenever an option changes.

Everything runs locally in your browser. Nothing you type into the custom foes field, or any option you set, is ever uploaded or logged. Copy the result, download it as a .txt file for your session notes, or send it to another tool's input to keep working with it.

FAQ

How does difficulty affect the encounter?
Difficulty and party level together set how many creatures appear — easy stays small regardless of level, while deadly scales up sharply for a high-level party.
What does the combat/social slider do?
It sets the odds that any given encounter is a fight rather than a non-combat one — an NPC, a trader, a chance meeting. At 100% every encounter is combat; at 0% none are.
Can I use my own monster list instead of the built-in ones?
Yes. Type or paste names into the custom foes field, separated by commas, semicolons or line breaks, and combat encounters are drawn from that list instead of the environment default.
Does the reward apply to every encounter?
Only when "include a reward or find" is on. It then adds one loot line to each generated encounter, combat or social.
Is my custom list uploaded anywhere?
No. The generator runs entirely in your browser — your custom foes list and every option you choose stay on your device.
